Garraf oil field attacked

21 Aug 2017   Iraq

Attackers opened fire with machine guns and a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) near a gas-oil separation station at the Garraf oil field in southern Dhi Qar province Friday evening. The characteristics of the attack do not bear the hallmarks of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) group, and the provincial police chief said residents are upset at a series of recent earthquakes for which they blame oil operations. Three residents of a nearby village have been arrested. This content is for registered users. Please login to continue.
