Offshore operators in the Gulf of Mexico continued to restart production on Thursday after as much as a week of shut-ins from Hurricane Nate last weekend, the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said. By noon CDT (1700 GMT) Thursday, 343,539 b/d of oil was still shut in, or about 20% of all Gulf of Mexico production, as well as 399,920 Mcf/d of natural gas, or 12% of all gas produced in the Gulf. By contrast, on Wednesday, 571,854 b/d of oil, or 33% of the US Gulf’s total, and 660,550 Mcf/d of gas, or 21%, was shut in. Late Wednesday, Chevron said it had resumed normal operations in all its Gulf of Mexico fields that had been shut in prior to Nate’s approach.
