Nigerian Senate on Wednesday blamed the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) for the death of over 150 Nigerians involved in spillage. The 150 persons died when an abandoned pipeline from which they were scooping fuel exploded. The pipeline is owned by Pipeline and Products Marketing Company, (PPMC). A senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District Theodore Orji lamented the loss of lives in the explosion. The senator explained that the villagers had gone to scoop oil from the leakage as a means of livelihood when the explosion occurred. Orji said the death of the victims occurred due to the negligence of duty by NNPC staff.
