BASRA – Widespread flooding is threatening to shut down the state-operated Majnoon oil field , and has already submerged thousands of acres of Basra farmland. Output at Majnoon, which is producing about 117,000 barrels per day (bpd) , has not been affected so far. But floodwaters have already reached four wellheads, according to two officials at the state-run Basra Oil Company (BOC), and further breaches of a nearby dirt berm could put the field’s main facilities underwater.
