BP starts up its Thunder Horse Northwest Expansion in deepwater Gulf of Mexico months ahead of schedule. BP’s Thunder Horse Northwest Expansion offshore Gulf of Mexico is starting four months ahead of schedule, the company announced Oct. 18. The expansion, which is the fourth major upstream project for BP globally in 2018, is forecasted to boost Thunder Horse production by 30,000 barrels of oil per day (boepd), bringing output in the field to more than 200,000 boepd.
